Overlooked: Morcheeba “Let Me See”

If I were to name my top 25 albums of all-time, I’m pretty sure that Morcheeba‘s 1998 masterpiece “Big Calm” would be in there. Released during the height of the trip-hop era, Big Calm is packed with back-to-back catchy choruses, dreamy production and, of course, Skye’s beautiful voice.

Back in the late 90s, I was glued to the UK charts and remember always getting excited when a band or artist I was into began to have hit singles. Morcheeba were never able to reach the same heights of chart success or critical acclaim that their contemporaries (Massive Attack, Portishead, etc) did; which always puzzled me a little. Maybe they became too poppy?

Regardless, Big Calm is certainly their crowning achievement, and the rest of their catalog deserves a few listens to. You can’t go wrong with songs like Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day, Trigger Hippie and Let Me See – which you can listen to below.
