#19 Album of 2010: Kylie Minogue ‘Aphrodite’

What can you say about Kylie Minogue that hasn’t already been said?

She’s one of the biggest and best forces in pop music. She’s an all-time fave of mine and her latest album, Aphrodite, proves that she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

Don’t try to look for deeper meaning in her lyrics or anything —- just crank up the volume and have a big ole gay dance party. My only complaint with her new album was releasing All The Lovers as the lead single. It’s the weakest track on an otherwise fun album.

Download the whole album and fucking dance, for fuck’s sake.

#20 Album of 2010: New Young Pony Club ‘The Optimist’

New Young Pony Club totally surprised me with their 2nd album, ‘The Optimist’.

They’re kind of difficult to categorize, but a solid homage to the late 70s and early 80s sound of bands like Blondie: female vocals, synth-y, slightly punkish and loads of fun.

‘We Want To’ is my favorite song off ‘The Optimist’ but every track is pretty awesome.

Download these: Lost a Girl, Chaos, Dolls, and The Optimist.

#21 Album of 2010: Bag Raiders “Bag Raiders”

Love the debut album from Australian DJ duo, Bag Raiders.

There is so much great dance music coming out of Australia right now and Bag Raiders fit right in with Miami Horror, Cut Copy and all the rest of the great Australian bands currently making waves over there.

Take a look at the video for ‘Way Back Home’ and if you like it, pick up the self-titled debut from Bag Raiders. For some reason this song reminds me of Blur, even if their influences are closer to New Order.

The whole album is worth a listen but download these: Castle In The Air, Sunlight, Shooting Stars, and Always.

#22 Album of 2010: Grum ‘Heartbeats’

Leeds-based DJ, Grum, continued the DJ-turned-singer-motif of 2010, with his debut album, Heartbeats.

I’ve known of Grum for a few years now and have always been a fan of his remixes. This year his album blew me away and became one of my favorites. If you’re a fan of Penguin Prison, Miami Horror, and Monarchy, you’ll be all over this album.

My song of the summer this year was his single, Through The Night, and if it weren’t so fuckin cold outside, I’d say put the top down and drive while listening to it.

The album is totally kickin. Download these: Can’t Shake This Feeling, Runaway, Fashion, Heartbeats, and LA Lights.
