I’m embarrassingly late in writing about Rochester’s Joywave.
I’ve had their album for almost 6 months and have been meaning to write about them since receiving a copy in my inbox back then. To be fair, I had just gotten out of the hospital when I got the album – so forgive me.
Ok, enough about me; let’s talk about the music. I first discovered Joywave thanks to a slick remix done by Cosmonaut Grechko about a year and a half ago for their song Traveling At The Speed Of Light. I still have no idea what the original sounds like, but I was certainly hooked on that mix.
This review is really boring. How can I spice it up?
Well, let’s just cut to the chase, shall we? My favorite track on Joywave’s debut album, Koda Vista, is for a song called True Grit. It’s so good that I’ve decided to give it Song-a-Day status and expose you all to a great new talent. Sound wise, they kinda remind me of about 5 different bands all of which, interestingly enough, are part of that whole wave of eargasm-inducing synthpop currently being made in Australia. But these guys are from Rochester. Go figure.
Honestly, I really don’t have anything else to say so just listen to the fucking song, ok? It’s good. I promise.
Check out True Grit below.
