Song-a-Day: Badly Drawn Boy “Magic In The Air”

Badly Drawn Boy The Hour of Bewilderbeast Magic In The AirWell, I was going to wait until Monday to debut this new section of the site I’m calling “Song-a-Day,” but I’m too inspired to wait a minute longer.

Song-a-Day is a place where I’m going to feature one of my favorite songs every day. Some may be brand new, some may be old; all are aimed towards exposing you to new music.

The reality is, most people don’t have time in their busy days to spend towards scouring the internet for new music the way that we music geeks do. You just want good music and could care less when it came out. So…I am here to help. Collecting music is a big hobby of mine (duh) and, aside from making people laugh, I have no greater passion in life than exposing people to my music taste. While I may not frankly have the time every day to share my musings about each song, you will definitely get some new artists to explore on your own.

With today being the first day of autumn, I think it’s appropriate to begin this new venture with the song that most reminds me of autumn EVERY year, Badly Drawn Boy‘s “Magic In The Air.”

Around this time of year, the cynic inside me begins to hibernate a bit and I get a little romantic, believe it or not, and it always seems to happen during fall and spring. In the fall, I tend to gravitate towards piano driven ballads soaked in strings, simplicity and beautiful vocals. On “Magic In The Air,” UK solo artist Badly Drawn Boy ticks every box and leaves you wishing you were cudding on the couch with someone special; trying to keep each other warm from the slight nighttime chill.

Have a listen below and then pick up his practically perfect in every way award winning debut album, The Hour Of The Bewilderbeast.
