Looks like sisters Tegan and Sara have been dancing their little lesbian asses off since their last release, 2009’s Sainthood. Witness exhibit A: Bouncy synthtastic new single “Closer.”
My relationship with Tegan and Sara’s music has been hit or miss over the years – but mostly hit. Since I jumped on board the TAS train back in 2004 with the release of their gritty indie 2nd album, The Business Of Art, Tegan and Sara have bounced around different genres, while always being good for 5-6 solid pop songs on each record.
My favorite album of theirs was 2004’s first foray into synth, So Jealous, which was (in my eyes) as close to they’ve ever come to creating a masterpiece. As their rabid fanbase has grown over the years, their star has risen, and they’ve become highly sought after by producers and DJs alike.
While they’re probably rockers at heart, it seems as though 2012’s Tegan and Sara have grabbed their dancing shoes; perhaps inspired by their H to the O to the T turn as super DJ Morgan Page’s muse on last year’s sexy single, Body Work. Latest single, Closer, sounds like a dance salad mixed with The Go-Go’s and Wilson Philips; catchy as hell, gorgeously harmonized and positively addicting. Have a listen below.
