The Hotness: Niki & The Dove

Niki & The Dove is a somewhat mystical-sounding Swedish pop duo, comprised of Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf. They’ve been around since 2010 and just last year released their interesting debut EP, The Drummer, on Sub Pop.

I wrote about The Drummer last year – specifically, the catchy-as-hell title track; which lead me to the rest of their music, a blend of everyone from Kate Bush to Stevie Nicks to Siouxsie Sioux and even a more poppy version of fellow Swede, Fever Ray. I’ve been hooked ever since.

One of the coolest things about the current state of the music industry is that artists are more focused on quality now than ever before. They strive to release an EP of 6 or 7 killer tracks, as opposed to a full album of 12 tracks, 6 of which are often times filler. Call it what you want, but I call it the ‘Robyn Approach’ – as is was her who created the blueprint for how pop artists are beginning to unleash their music to the masses. Like her or not, Robyn’s influence has been MASSIVE and fascinating to watch.

For some artists, the EP approach means us fans typically don’t have to wait 4 years in-between releases and, as is the case with Niki & The Dove, sometimes only have to wait a few months for brand new music.

Today, we give you not one, but two amazing tracks from Niki & The Dove in the form of their latest single “The Fox” and upcoming single “DJ, Ease My Mind.” Have a look at the videos below.

*Niki & The Dove’s latest single, The Fox, is out now and available to download for free; while their upcoming single, DJ Ease My Mind, is out 26 February – both via Sub Pop.
