The Hotness is your daily look at 3 new songs that are amazing, essential, and are sure to make you horny. Ok, the last part isn’t necessarily true. But if you don’t like at least one of these three songs, you need to check 1) Your testosterone levels 2) Your estrogen levels 3) Your hearing.
a&r are a (sexy) Brooklyn-based dance pop duo that found their way onto my iPod last week as I was walking around, ironically, in Brooklyn on Friday night. Their song Aquarium was one of the 300 or so new songs on shuffle that I’ve received in the past week from labels, PR agencies, artists, and friends, but it was one of maybe 3 songs I heard the entire day that caused me to say ‘who was that?’ and give it another listen. Well, since then, Aquarium has turned into one of my favorite new songs and is just the kind of 80s-inspired, dance stomping masterpiece to have you bobbing your head to the beat as you navigate your way through the NYC subway system, and beyond. Take a listen below and then head on over to the band’s Bandcamp page and buy their new Aquarium EP (as I did)!

Billie Ray Martin & Hard Ton are two of the biggest legends in the House music scene and they have teamed up for a new EP entitled Sold Life, which will hit stores 26 April. I’ve heard a few tracks from the EP and my favorite, so far, is the 90s house-inspired Snuff Crew Remix of Fantasy Girl. F-to the-ucking brilliant! For me, best of all is hearing Billie Ray’s voice again. I’ve been a big fan of hers ever since her 1996 hit Your Loving Arms and hearing new music from her takes me on an instant walk down memory lane as I snuck into gay clubs as a teen in the late 90s. Enjoy the remix and keep an eye out for the EP.

Parallels were responsible for one of the best debut albums released last year called Visionaries. The album VERY narrowly missed out on being in my Top 25 Albums of 2010, but that doesn’t mean that they’re any less amazing of a band than they truly are. Lead singer, Holly Dodson, sounds like Madonna circa 1984 and their music sounds as if it was lifted right off one of New Order’s early albums. Really good shit. Their new single and EP is entitled Salome and you can listen to the song below.
1. a&r ‘Aquarium’
2. Billie Ray Martin & Hard Ton ‘Fantasy Girl (SnuffCrew Remix)’
3. Parallels ‘Salome’
